OM – The Sacred Sound of the Universe

Om (or Aum), is an ancient Hindu mantra and mystical Sanskrit said to be the sacred sound of the universe. It is also used in Buddhism as well as other faiths. Composed of three soft tones, a-u-m, the sound is a never ending vibrational energy reminding us that the universe is constantly in motion. You can hear it in the sounds of the forest stream, inside of a seashell, and as the mistral wind surrounds your very essence. Om is the humming of life’s essence universally.

Chanting Om allows us to recognize our experience as a reflection of how the whole universe moves, the setting of the sun, the rising of the moon, the ebb and flow of the tides, the beating of our hearts. As we chant Om, it takes us for a ride on this universal movement, through our breath, our awareness, and our physical energy, and there we begin to sense a bigger connection that is both uplifting and soothing.

Om is spoken and used in auditory mediation and begins with concentrating on a single object which culminates in absorption in a particular object. Absorption reveals the subtle nature of the object, and by knowing it, we are able to perceive the reality of subtle entities within the universe. The symbol spiritually refers to Atman, soul self within, and Brahman, ultimate reality, entirely of the universe, truth, divine, supreme spirit and ultimate knowledge.

Crystal Meditation

You can probably find a list of crystals that are recommended for meditation, Amethyst for calming, Charoite for reducing anxiety, stress, enhancing relaxation, Labradorite deepens meditation, Moonstone promotes calmness and peace of mind. There are literally so many different types of gemstones and crystals we can work with in mediation. I think the best approach is to find a stone that resonates and vibrates with you. What stone has been speaking to you recently? Incorporate gemstones and crystals into your mediation practices and harness their magical and healing energies.

Candle Meditation

Candle mediation is also known as gazing meditation. Focusing directly upon the open flame of the candle. If starring directing into the flame is too bright for you, make sure to have lit candles around whenever meditating. A candle during meditation provides and creates a positive visual ambiance and the essences within the candle will lend to facilitating a greater sense of peace and stillness. I make a beautiful Om Candle for gazing you will love which incorporates warm meditational earthy essences of sandalwood, warm amber, red musk, oakmoss and ylang ylang. A magical and aromatic blend perfect for mediation, tranquility and renewal. Adorned with a peaceful Om pendant, each candle is handmade to order and topped with peaceful herbs, flowers and quartz crystals. Click the photo to see my Om Herbal Alchemy Candle.

Incenses for Meditation

Since ancient times, incenses and resins have always been incorporated into meditation rituals. Just like the sacred flame of a candle illuminates, incenses can be used beforehand to cleanse and purify your space. Incenses such as Frankincense, Copal, Benzoin and Amber are perfect for clearing beforehand and also during meditation. Other incenses and resin blends are available for mediation, and one of my favorites are the Om Honey Heartwood Resins. Natural heartwoods, saps, resins, herbs and flowers are honey drenched with pure essential oils and essences that will fill your sacred space with an all-mood transforming peaceful essence.
