Imbolc Brigid’s Cross Candles for Midwinter Rituals

In honor one of our favorite goddesses, our Imbolc Brigid’s Cross Candle is born.

The Goddess Brigid, also known as Saint Brigid of Kildare, the patroness saint of Ireland, is honored and celebrated on Imbolc, a sacred pagan holiday at the beginning of February. Brigid, also known as Brighid or Brid (pronounced breed), is the Triple Goddess of Fire who bears the sacred eternal flame. A Celtic Triple Goddess, she is the goddess of the hearth, poetry, divination, prophecy, healing, the goddess of the Smith’s craft and traditional learning.

She represents the three aspects of a woman. Maiden, or virgin, the nurturing and loving Mother, and finally Crone, the Sage or Wise Woman. She is the goddess of fire who tirelessly protects those who call upon her. She rules over the elevated physical plane and lights the way through and out of the darkness, guiding us every step of the way.

Brigid’s Cross itself is believed to have a connection to the crossover from Celtic paganism to Christianity. It has been said that Brigid weaved the cross from rushes and willow twigs while tending to a dying pagan chieftain who was then baptized a Christian upon his death. On February 1st the occassion was marked as Saint Brigid’s Day, recognized as the first day of spring known as Imbolc in ancient Ireland. Ever since, Brigid’s Cross has become a symbol of Brigid and Imbolc, whether it be pagan or christian. And to this day, every February 1st in Ireland and throughout other parts of the world, Brigid’s Crosses are traditionally hung inside homes and dwellings for protection from evil spirits, hunger, negative elements and fire.

We love Imbolc and to honor one of our most beloved goddesses Brigid, our Imbolc Brigid’s Cross Candle is born. Each candle is hand poured and scented with our popular Brigid’s Blossoms candle essence with wild jasmine and moonlit honeysuckle with soft notes of blonde woods, orange and galbanum. Beautiful candles to illuminate your Imbolc altar and rituals, each is adorned with gold ribbon and a Brigid’s Cross protection charm.

Witches are abundant in illumination as a myriad of candles are traditionally lit shedding light upon the darkness of winter. Cozy up this midwinter with a truly magickal candle created to help guide through reflection and towards your reawakening.

Our Imbolc offerings are seasonal and can be found here.

Imbolc blessings – xo
